We provided extensively researched and well presented documentation to provide support for listed building consent. The planning proposal affected the setting of the Inn by building a new extension in the Inn’s courtyard. We also provided a robust Design and Access Statement which outlined the use of the most appropriate design, materials and layout of the extension which would be most sympathetic to the Inn and its setting within Southwold’s conservation area.
We believe that by helping appropriate development of historic properties, their survival is assured via providing a new use which would help generate an income to contribute to its maintenance and thus help the building ‘wash its own face.’
Historic buildings need sympathetic developments, and a Heritage Assessment can inform most appropriate design and use of materials.
