An amazing development…. The generated energy will contribute power to the train station, and any excess will feed back to the national grid. Over 4400 panels (600 sq.metres) are to be installed which will generate an estimated 900,000 kWh of electricity per year. Other resource saving technologies such as rain water harvesting and sun pipes are to be incorporated into the refurbishment.
It’s easy to appreciate the large scale of this project, and that London’s built heritage and historic infrastructure can be incorporated within efforts to progress sensible and sustainable development. Bridges and train stations are part of the metropolitan landscape, it’s great to see them generating their own renewable energy.
